True’s Pond Dam Repair Project
Camp NEOFA launched the True’s Pond Dam Repair Project to address leaks in the dam and prevent the uncontrolled release of water from the pond. Preserving the pond is essential to the camp experience, and this project ensured that campers can continue to enjoy it every summer.
After more than five years of effort, the project was successfully completed in September 2020.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we met our fundraising goal! The repair cost totaled $240,000. With existing funds and donations received in 2019 and 2020, we raised $225,000. An additional $15,000 in donations received between December 2020 and February 2021 not only completed the project but also created a $16,000 reserve fund to cover annual inspection and ongoing maintenance.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed—every gift, large or small, helped make this achievement possible.
Project Summary
Camp NEOFA contracted with Calderwood Engineering of Richmond, ME and CPM Constructors of Freeport, ME for design and construction of the Dam Repair. The proposal was approved, the design, and fundraising completed.
We received approval and permitting from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and US Army Corps of Engineers.
The project was completed in two phases.
Initial Design and Permit Process
October to December 2019 – Design completed
Design and permit applications submitted to Maine DEP and US Army Corps of Engineers
April 28, 2020 we received the permit from USACE
May 22, 2020 we received the permit from Maine DEP
Dam Repair Construction Process
Started August 10,2002
Completed September 21, 2020 - Including Downstream wall which was not in the original proposal.
